What is Leonardo Comp Edition?

Leonardo Comp Edition helps competition organizers from all over the world publish the results of their competitions right after a task has been scored.

Along with the task results the flights tracks can be published, allowing users to view, compare, animate and even view the flights in 3D using Google Earth.

Competition overall scores are also computed on-the-fly after the task has been uploaded thus eliminating the need of performing additional computations and publishing the results.

Who did this and why?

Two pilots/developers that were tired of watching the same old RACE results page over and over again :) We saw the oportunity of doing something better, and here is the result of our work.

All the development, web design, etc is done by Manolis Andreadakis (lead) and Fernando Koch.

This project is based on Leonardo.

What are subdomains for?

When a user creates a new account, a new subdomain will be created. It represents a logical way to group competitions.

For example, a user may create a subdomain called "uspgnats". This subdomain will group all national competitions that will take place in the United States.

Another example could be "monarca", where all the Monarca Paragliding Open will be grouped.

You may create as much subdomains as you want, there is no limit!

NOTE: For your subdomains you can also use hgcomps.net

Can I install it in my website?

Leonardo Comp Edition is not available for download. We thought that it is best if all competititions are centralized in one place ony and available for all. The added benefit of this approach is that you always enjoy the latest improvments in the software. When we add a new feature it becomes instantly available to all the submitted results.

However, you can still include your competition in your website - it is quite simple: just create an HTML page with two frames: one small and hidden, and the other with a URL pointing to the competition address - that's it! Alternatevly you can use an iframe. If you have doubts, contact us and we'll be glad to help you.

We can also point a domain or subdomain or your website to our subdomain directly. For example, if you own domain "mydomain.com" you could have a domain like "http://comps.mydomain.com".

What exactly can I do with it ?

You get a unique username and password. With these you have access to the administrative interface where you can

Also:

Can I customize the appearence of my competitions?

Right now, you can customize the banner that is shown in the subdomain. This banner will be shown only for your subdomain. The size of the banner must be 765x70 pixels.

I would like my comp to appear with the same style as the rest of my website. Is it possible?

Yes, we can develop a set of custom templates just for your website for a fee.

These templates will be available just for your user, so nobody else will be able to use them.

How i submit a task's results and tracklogs ?

The competition needs to be created with the RACE Scoring Program and the tracks be downloaded with CompeGPS.

We provide a special template called "TaskResult.xml" that must be used inside RACE to output the results of a task in a special format. Then, a ZIP file must be created with all the tracks of a particular task.

These two files must be uploaded and voila - task is published!

It is really simple but dont take our word: try it out with one of your previous events, you will be amazed with the simplicity and the step by step instructions. Typical times to prepare the zip and RACE file are 5-10 mins and another 5 minutes to upload these to the server.

How much does it cost ? Is this a free service ?

"Leonardo for Comps" is a commercial service. In order to cover operational costs and support development we charge a fee for each task added. The way the service works is outlined below:

But you must pre-pay and buy credits that will be spend when you submit the task results and track logs for a competition. The fee for each task is dependand on 2 things:

  1. The number of pilots that took part in the task
  2. The option to add "sponsor ads". See below

To see the current fees please login with your username and password and click on the "Buy Credits" link on the top menu.

What are the "sponsor ads" ?

There is the option for the organizer to incorporate the logos and banners of his event sponsors to every result page thus providing  extra promotion to his sponsors. The banners will be displayed on column of their own on the right side of each page realted to the competition. This includes competition results, task results, track log display/animation/comparison, news/blogs etc...

The option add to an event "sponsor ads" must be utilized when the organizer creates the event. There is a question on the bottom of the form which by default is set to "No ads".

Please note that adding "sponsor ads" to an event will affect the pricing of all tasks of this event.

What do i get with my money ?

You pay once for each task you submit and this task will be hosted for ever on our server. Our aim is to not let the cumulative wisdom of competition tracklogs to be lost !

You can add as many photos as you like.

You can add as many news articles/blogs as you like.

You dont have to worry about hosting plans-bandwidth-disk space, it is all taken care of.

You can use your logo on the top

You have the option to use your own sub-domain like results.mydomain.com  (if you own "mydomain.com") instead of mydomain.pgcomps.net

You get all the full features that you can see on the site.

Any other future improvements of the  service will propagate on previous tasks/events already in the system.
